All artists have talent: a misconception?I hear this phrase ALL THE TIME coming from all directions of people, "You have so much talent to do art like that!"
Before I wrote this journal I decided to look up the actual word: Talent is defined as a special natural ability or aptitude. I.E. being just a natural at drawing. While I will say that there is always someone out there with a natural gift in art, there are also people out there that just have a natural gift for anything that exists. There are natural scientists, natural writers, natural sports players, the list can go on.
Any time I hear someone tell me I have talent, I know whole heartedly they mean well and are praising me, but what they fail to actually praise is my hard work and dedication to my skill set. I was not "this good" out of thin air. Maybe I had some talent...maybe. But I think it is more appropriate to describe me as having the patience and drive for a certain skill which in turn becomes developed on. If you are truly motivated a
A tumblr blog for those of you who wants critiquedEdit: alright, thanks guys so much for the great feedback . we're slowly working our way through your critique-requests.
Critique submission is closed for the moment because there are so many requests coming at once and there's only like...9 of us critiquing and one of them is a writer. keep following us though, cause I'm sure as we finish critiquing them, we'll open it up again
here's the blog: http://critcorner.tumblr.com
This is a blog where a bunch of artists will be critiquing those who submit their work/projects in, so if you want your work critiqued, go on that blog : D
I'll be critiquing on it too ~~ Well, mostly the ones needing human anatomy help and asking for red-lining xDD;~ but there's peeps who can help with animals, composition, colours and stuff too .
please note that it might take a bit of time for all of us to get through and critique it thoroughly, especially since we're all pretty busy people as well .
ps. this isn't my tumblr, this is just a c
This commercial isn't real...neither are society's standards of beauty
This absolutely hillarious video has been "infecting" the web for some time now (and I wanted to feature it sooner, but oh well, life and such). The first time I saw it, I was laughing so hard, because many of these things, I actually do in manips - sometimes not this quickly, but I do. And it is done daily for just about any magazine cover or vip photo shoot that you get to see! This is the true part about this video. And it's the sad part, too.
Uncover the fake Beauty
As a photomanipulator, I am often amazed at what other non-photoshop (or any other graphics programme) users will accept as real without question. Especially younger ones will be influenced by this image they see day in day out and aspire to be like it. To be as fake and "perfect" as the cover girl. How can you achieve anything like that in real life? You can't. It's that simple.
All that is left is Photoshop - the real one. You don't need a fancy plug-in to make all th
You are all amazing, but I will have to stop accepting requests, due to the amount increasing so rapidly. I chose the longer time since I did not expect it to gain such a popularity. I will still feature everyone on the 19th, I will not move that date. But as of this moment, new requests will not be accepted. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding. I will inform everyone when the feature is done.
10 things to do while looking at a photo
Training your eye is very important. To take your photography to the next level and grow as an artist, you need to know what looks good, have an open mind and build your own style.
Point at the first thing that attracts your attention (often being the brightest point in the image)
Try to mentally trace the path your eye takes around the image (it's like connecting the dots in order to discover the story, in this case)
Has the photographer used the rule of thirds? Or a different type of placing the elements in the image?
Has the photographer shot from his eye level? Or chose a different point of view?
What is the photographer trying to transmit with the image?
How has the photographer used the environment to tell the story?
How has the photographer used light?
Why does the image work?
Does the image evoke an emotional response in the viewer's eye?
From the above, which can be appli
Just Say NoLately I've been thinking a lot about art theft, namely tracing. While I've never supported it, in the past I had turned my back to it out of pity. Pity that is, for people who went out of their way to try and make nice things for me- Fan art, basically. Whether it was traced from some video game, anime or even one of my own pieces of artwork, I thought it would be a discouraging slap in the face if I told the tracer how I really felt about what they'd done. So I let it slide, too many times at that. Turning my back not only hurts me though, but hurts those who want to become better artists.
I definitely don't want to be discouraging towards aspiring artists, but I decided to stop the facade now. As a first step, I'm going to start looking over all of the artwork I have in my favorites and remove anything that is a trace, or highly suspected as a trace. I'll do it quietly, even if it's recent and/or a constant thing for the particular user. If I continue to ever get any links to traced
Is dA and its Group system slowing dying out?Hello everyone!
Before you read, please keep in mind that my intentions are not to blame, insult, criticize, or say anything harmful about anyone! The intentions of this feature if anything, is to motivate us all in improving the group system and dA as a whole! ALSO this is focused more largely on photography, digital art, and a few other mediums, but I don't claim to speak for the cases of other mediums and types of groups that I am not familiar with.
EDIT: To make things clear, I don't believe dA or Groups will ever be "dead" in the sense of them not existing anymore, or members in both factions not existing either, I'm using "Death" more metaphorically perhaps, in saying that the way the group system is intended to be working, has been failing, and needs improving in order to not fail its purpose, and that dA needs to do something to strengthen the community sense and interactions between members both in groups and in the dA com

fandom things I don't understandIf there are two things I don't understand with fandoms it's when:
1) People say "so-and-so doesn't get enough love" or "this character could use more attention" when it's actually one of the most popular characters in the fandom and you can find at least six billion pieces of fanart or material related to said character by doing one search alone.
2) People think they're "special" or "just weird like that ^__^" for liking 'psycho' characters. The "lol yea im sort of different becuz my fetish is crazy guys/chicks/characters and i guess that makes me strange lolol xD" variety.
Because seeing at least ten million characters, original or established, with the same 'tude grin, blood-covered mouth, goffick or scene attire, and "i-will-lick-this-bloody-knife-to-show-how-hardcore-i-am" generic anime "crazy person" pose is something you'd never find in a million years.
Actually, no. I do understand. I just think it's dumb.
That is all.
Edit: To prevent misunderstanding, that's not to say there
